Terms of Service
These Terms are the agreement between you and MyLifePapers LLC for your use of the MyLifePapers application and related services. By installing or using MyLifePapers, you accept these Terms.
In short:
- You pay once for the app, and optionally subscribe for cloud features.
- The free trial lets you create up to 10 records, after which you choose whether to activate a license.
- Subscriptions auto-renew. There are no refunds.
- Your data belongs to you. We can't see it.
- The service is provided "as is," with the usual limits on our liability.
The full Terms are below. Please read them.
1. About these Terms
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") form a legal contract between you and MyLifePapers LLC, a limited liability company organized under the laws of the State of Texas, United States ("MyLifePapers," "we," "us," or "our"). They govern your use of:
- the MyLifePapers desktop application,
- the MyLifePapers mobile applications for iOS and Android,
- the website at mylifepapers.com, and
- any related services we offer (together, the "Service").
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not install or use the Service.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information. It is part of these Terms.
2. Your account and license
When you buy MyLifePapers, we issue you a license key. The license grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service on your own devices and, if you choose, with your household members on their devices.
You are responsible for:
- keeping your license key secure,
- keeping your passphrase secure (we cannot recover it for you),
- the activity of any device or household member that uses your license,
- providing accurate information when you purchase or contact support, and
- making sure your use of the Service is legal where you live.
One license covers one household. You may not resell, sublicense, or transfer your license to another household without our written consent.
3. Free trial
You may use MyLifePapers without a license to create up to 10 records so you can decide whether it is right for you. The trial does not expire on a clock — you may stop at 10 and pick up later. Records you create during the trial remain on your device and are not deleted if you choose not to buy.
To create more than 10 records, you must purchase and activate a license.
4. Subscriptions, billing, and refunds
MyLifePapers is sold as a one-time license fee for the application, with an optional subscription that unlocks cloud features (cloud sync, Quick Share, and Trusted Access).
Subscriptions. The subscription is billed in advance on a yearly cycle. Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each cycle at the then-current price unless you cancel before the renewal date. You can cancel at any time from your account settings or by emailing support@mylifepapers.com.
Pricing changes. We may change our prices. If we do, we will give you at least 30 days' notice before your next renewal, so you can decide whether to continue. If you do not want to continue at the new price, cancel before the renewal date.
No refunds. All sales are final. We do not offer refunds for the one-time license fee or for subscription payments, in whole or in part, including for unused time after cancellation. This is why we provide a free trial of up to 10 records — to let you decide before you pay.
If a payment fails or is reversed, we may suspend your access to cloud features until the matter is resolved. Your local data remains on your device.
Taxes. Prices do not include applicable taxes. You are responsible for any taxes, duties, or government charges that apply to your purchase.
5. Your content and your data
You own your data. We do not claim any rights in the records, passwords, files, notes, or other content you store in MyLifePapers.
Because your data is encrypted on your device with a passphrase only you know, we cannot read it, cannot share it, and cannot recover it for you. You alone are responsible for:
- remembering your passphrase,
- safeguarding your recovery code,
- backing up your data if you want a second copy outside MyLifePapers, and
- the legality of the content you store.
If you choose to share content using Quick Share or Trusted Access, you are responsible for who you share with and what you share with them.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to use MyLifePapers to:
- store, share, or distribute content that is illegal where you live or where the recipient is located, including content that infringes someone else's intellectual property rights;
- store, share, or distribute child sexual abuse material, threats of violence, or content used to harass, defame, or impersonate another person;
- interfere with the Service, the security of other users, or the underlying networks and systems (no probing, scraping at unreasonable rates, or denial-of-service attacks);
- attempt to reverse-engineer the Service, except to the extent applicable law expressly permits despite this limitation;
- circumvent license, subscription, or trial limits, or share, resell, or sublicense your license; or
- use the Service to build a product that competes with MyLifePapers.
If you violate these rules, we may suspend or terminate your access. Where the law permits, we may report serious violations to the appropriate authorities.
7. Cloud features and third-party services
If you use cloud sync, Quick Share, or Trusted Access, your data travels in encrypted form to either our own cloud storage or to a cloud account you own at a third-party provider (Google Drive, Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, or Apple iCloud).
When you connect a third-party cloud provider:
- you authorize the connection at the provider, not with us — we never receive your provider credentials;
- the provider's own terms and privacy policy apply to your relationship with them;
- you can revoke our access at any time from the provider's settings, without telling us; and
- our ability to provide cloud features depends on the provider's availability, which is outside our control.
We are not responsible for the practices of any third-party cloud provider, and we do not guarantee that any cloud provider will remain available or continue to support our integration.
8. Availability and modifications to the Service
We work to keep the Service available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. The application may need to be updated for security, performance, or compatibility reasons. We may modify, add, or remove features from time to time. We will not remove features in a way that materially degrades a paid subscription without giving you reasonable notice and a path to cancel.
Cloud features depend on internet connectivity, our servers, and the cloud provider you choose. The application itself continues to work locally without an internet connection — you can create, read, edit, and delete records offline.
9. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time, with or without notice, by deleting the application and (if you wish to also remove server-side records) emailing support@mylifepapers.com.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service or to specific features if:
- you materially breach these Terms or our Acceptable Use rules,
- your subscription has lapsed and you are using a subscription-only feature,
- we are required to do so by law,
- continuing to provide the Service to you presents a serious security or safety risk, or
- we discontinue the Service generally.
Where the situation allows, we will give you advance notice and a reasonable chance to fix the problem. Where it does not — for example, where there is an immediate threat to other users — we may act first and notify you afterward.
What happens to your data on termination. Your data on your device is not affected by termination — it stays on your device and continues to work locally. If you used our cloud sync, you may continue to access your encrypted vault for a grace period (currently 30 days after the subscription ends), after which we may delete it.
10. Disclaimers
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of these disclaimers may not apply to you. In that case, the warranties are excluded to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
11. Limitation of liability
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of these limits may not apply to you. In that case, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless MyLifePapers LLC and its officers, members, employees, and agents from any claim, demand, loss, liability, damage, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of:
- your breach of these Terms or our Acceptable Use rules,
- your violation of any law or third-party right,
- content you stored or shared through the Service, or
- the conduct of any household member or device using your license.
We will promptly notify you of any claim we receive that is covered by this section, and we may, at our discretion, take over its defense at your expense.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
If we have a dispute, we will both try to resolve it informally first. Email us at support@mylifepapers.com with a description of the issue, and we will respond within 30 days.
If we cannot resolve the dispute informally, any claim must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Travis County, Texas, and we both consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of those courts. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you waive any right to bring a claim as a plaintiff or class member in a class, collective, or representative action.
If you live in a jurisdiction whose laws give you the right to bring a claim in your local courts despite this section, those rights are not affected.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make a material change, we will notify you by email (to the address tied to your license) and post a banner inside the application at least 30 days before the change takes effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
If you do not agree to a change, you may stop using the Service before the change takes effect. You will not receive a refund of any prepaid fees.
15. Miscellaneous
Entire agreement. These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. They replace any prior agreement between us on the same subject.
No waiver. If we do not enforce a right under these Terms in one situation, that does not waive our right to enforce it later.
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the rest of the Terms will remain in effect.
Assignment. You may not assign these Terms to anyone else. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or part of our business; we will tell you if we do.
Notices to you. We may send notices to the email address tied to your license. It is your responsibility to keep that address current.
Notices to us. Email support@mylifepapers.com or write to: MyLifePapers LLC, 5900 Balcones Drive STE 100, Austin, TX 78731, United States.
Force majeure. Neither party is responsible for failure to perform caused by events outside its reasonable control, including acts of nature, war, terrorism, civil unrest, government action, labor action, network outages, or third-party provider failures.
